Fan clutch is shot , suggestions?

I've read the electric fan conversion article and I'm interested ... but the radiator in the article was a wide Rad, mine is not ('94) .
I'm not sure if I can fit two decently sized fans on mine.

Should I just replace it with another mechanical fan? If so, any suggestions?

Ifv the thermostatic spring is full of dirt it will prevent the fan from working (engaging), it doesn't engage until the radiator temp reaches 220 to 230 degrees, colder weather couls be even higher. If the spring shows what looks greasy, then some of the silicone has leaked out, then it has to be replaced.

It stays on all the time and is hard to turn. It also looks like it has leaked out.

See if hayden has a replacement for you. That's what us gm guys use.

MS Tech has a modified fan clutch but its expensive. I have been running theres for many years without any issues. Its locked up fully at 210 degrees or so. The oem stock clutch can lock up as high as 230 degrees.. Not a good thing either..

How much did yours cost Gary? I don't want to have to do this again any time soon and 230* is higher than I would like ..

Hayden is the leading seller of gm replacement fan clutches and I know they have clutches for powerstrokes. Check them out, I've got 1 fan clutch that is built to be locked at 180* for my 180 tstat on my 93 heavy hauler.

HAyden are generaly POS , and unfortunaltly, being the top seller does not make you the best quality, it just means that you have under cut everyone else in price and run everyone else out of business, which is aparantly the case with Hayden, as it is impossible to get an aftermarket fan clutch in north america not made by hayden or one of their affiliates( the otehr brands listed are all hayden as well) MS tech is a modified factory ford fan clutch, . I wish we had someone in Europe who could ship some over because Sachs makes fan clutches for these things but they only market them in Europe ( I need to check with my guy in the Netherlands that I get some of my Euro car parts from and see if he can get me some of those things because i know they would be worlds better than hayden )

X2 on the MS Tech clutch. Installed one on my motorhome 3 years ago. Love it. Locks in around 200* and it's never let the engine get any hotter than 210 in the worst of conditions!

Hmm, 3-5 yrs and no complaints. Odd to hear all 4 of my clutches are junk.

Youve been lucky Failure rates on haydens are extremely high. Average lifespan on one of their fans they make for a euro car is about 4-6 months,, when I had my shop, I couldnt count the number of those things I ran across dead. Most were ones folks had had installed recently on trips, I could replace them with a factory one and not worry for another 200k miles or so. This was long after I had found out myself teh hard way not to use the things after having at least a dozen come back on me in a very short period of time , all on my regular customers cars and most of those resulting in me having to make a road call on my dime to take care of the problem. You couldnt give me a hayden ( well, if you did, I'd take advantage or the good scrap value and haul it off

Maybe they build good 6.5 clutches because gm doesn't.
