Engine Swap

My friend has an F450 with a 7.5L gas engine. It has a manual transmission (not sure which one, I actually haven't taken a look at it yet) would this be the ZF5? Is it possible for us to put a 7.3 idi in it and just change the bell housing or do we need a new transmission also?

Also, sorry, it's a 1986

Jeff if its an 86 with a 4 speed transmission, your half way there. More than likely it's a T-19 soooo, all that you will need is the diesel bell housing with flywheel and clutch goodies for the diesel and that will bolt up to the trans.
From there you will also need the diesel motor mount plates as the 460 ones are different.

F-450 was out in 88, not 86.

Actually I take it back, I think it is an 86 F350. My friends said he thought it was on an F450 frame, but he might not know what he's talking about.

Great news! I'll relay the info. Then inevitably I'll get roped into working on this craziness!
