How old are your batts? Older than 3 or 4 years (especially in a cold climate) and you are on borrowed time.

If the pump is running you should have diesel all over the place if the cap is off the filter. How much fuel is in the tank? Try taking the suction line off the pump and stick it in a clean suplt of diesel. See what happens then. I think that is the root cause of your problem.

I'd consider disconnecting the GPR and using ether. Is your block heater plugged in?

PM me if you need a PCM.

Rebuild the starter yourself. I did it for about $40. It's easy to do.

Fords are plenty reliable if they are taken care of!

If the truck is not even smoking white while cranking glow plugs are not even to be considered yet. I honestly think tis truck is not getting fuel. No amount of cranking in the world is going to fix that. You an electric pump that may be bad. Just because it runs does not mean it is any good. You need to pull theinlet hose on the pump (get the line dissconnect tool! It is not that expensive) and feed it from a 5 gallon can. If it pumps, yo have a broken pickup or clogged pickup in the tank. It does happen.
