E4OD speed sensor?

Its the engine speed sensor that goes to cluster, then to the TCM.

That's may well be the case for an IDI.

My '97 was a powerstroke - had no TCM. It had the IDM and a PCM.

Even if the tone ring didnt exist, the transmission should still default into limp home mode and still move.

Have you checked your fluid? Level? Color?

color is just as good as the day i put it in, about 10 years ago. level is good, I can back all over my pasture, so im pretty sure its not the fluid. Trans makes no extra noises or anything when putting it in drive, just wont move.

I doubt the tone ring is the issue. To change it you have to pull the diff apart.

I would make sure your shift linkage is fully secure on your transmission, if it becomes loose sometimes it'll only engage park and reverse. If it is good, then there may be an internal issue.

yep i checked linkage, it is good, im pretty sure its going to be internal, was just hoping a 25 dollar sensor would save me 6000.00

seems kind of silly to put that much money into a truck that i bought for 3000.00 in 2011 and would probably only bluebook for about 300.00. But its paid for and i cant afford a new pretty one, like and F450 Dually! and dont want to get into the payment game at my age!

To this day I'll fix my truck no matter the cost, because it will always be cheaper than buying something newer that is equivalent.

Maybe take it to a trans shop for a second opinion, since the fluid is clean still, it may still be something silly.

Referring back to post #8, the ring or pinion had shed a tooth and wedged between the tone ring and ring gear. It caused a blip in the signal every revolution and the trans didn't behave as a result.

Never know what can happen. It's at least worth pulling the sensor and using it as a view port while turning the diff.

If you have no forward gears the tranny will have to be pulled. There is an internal failure.
