Fixing My "E4OD Overdrive Blinking Light" Issue

First off, a big thank you to everyone who shared their experiences with the E4OD overdrive blinking light! I finally fixed mine, and here’s what I did:

My OD light would come on (blinking) the instant I let off the throttle and go away when I re-applied throttle
  • Cleaned and reinstalled both wiring harness connectors on either side of the transmission, applying dielectric grease.
  • Disconnected the battery negative terminals overnight to clear any stored codes. (no fix)
  • Purchased an INNOVA 3145 OBD1 code reader (retrieved codes for MLPS & FIPL).
  • Replaced the FIPL sensor and rewired it to the updated connector.
  • Replaced and calibrated the FIPL (Throttle Position Sensor). (no fix)
  • Replaced the tachometer sensor. (FIXED!!!!!!!!!!)
Hope this helps someone else dealing with the same issue!

Thanks for the write-up!

There are very few places we can go to learn from those who have been up against these woes and conquered them. I think I speak for all of us who really like our old beasts and would miss them if we had to give them up.

I would sure miss mine. It's not like most mainstream mechanics know much about these old beasts these days.
