looking at this 96 xlt, and my 94 xlt, i noticed a difference on OBS doors!!!
never really paid attention until today.
the 94 xlt has had a drivers side fender and door replaced.

still OBS as the pass side.

i noticed a body line at the bottom of the door, on the flat part, there is a reveal
the 96 has it on all 4 doors.
the 94 has it on the pass side, but not on the door that was replaced.
me and Bob, thought it was an XLT item, but we have clearly disproved this.
with XLT trim all over the truck.

since the drivers door of the 94 does not have it, but the pass side does.

what year did this reveal come into play???

only pic right now.
its 2:30 am and i suffer from BWFS.

Yeah, 95-97 have that added detail down low. If the 94 has it on one side makes me think that side was replaced. I didn't realize they put it on the rear doors I thought is was a front door only type thing.

Everything bolts up the same as I understand it, but they will look slightly different.

Brian, I "think" that was added to the bottom of the doors for the 1996-1997 model years. I "thought" it only happened in 1997 model year trucks (which ran into 1998 as well prior to the introduction of the SD), but now seeing the pic of the 1996 it would seem that year also received that on the bottom of the doors. Not sure why Ford bothered with that after at least a 16 year successful run of doors without it:dunno

edit - Junk beat me to it! So it was 1995 as well. My 1994 does not have it.

It's usually a pretty good bet that if something is different than other OBS roundy nose trucks that it was a change in '96.

on my 94, dash says XLT,
passenger fender and door, with this line looks to be undisturbed.
inner fender and everything looks as if it was not swapped.

the drivers side has been swapped(without the line), im 100% sure of it.
only a few bolts holding the fender on.
inner fender not bolted in.
my frankensteins are not really a good source. lol

Both our '95s (RC and SC) have the character line, both sides. There are for sure a lot of franken-trucks out there by now, and only incurable Ford-geeks like us would notice this particular thing 90% of the time.

Conflicting answers here, but I was told 94 when I was searching for doors.

That's probably wrong though!

My 1994 does not have the extra "line" at the bottom of the doors, and all the sheet metal is original. BUT, it is an XL truck and not the higher end XLT, so maybe that has something to do with it. The build date for my truck was also May, 1994, so maybe trucks built later in the year got the extra "line" on the doors?

What line are we looking at? I'm lost

Oh, there is a little horizontal "crease" in the door skin an inch or two up form the bottom of the doors. You can see it on the pic Brian posted. Not a big deal - just something Ford decided to add for some reason to confuse us all and make it harder to match doors when replacing them.

I bet it is 95 then. Wasn't sure I trusted the salvage guy that told me that.

I'm looking at your pic Brian, and trying to decide if my 92 XLT has that line...it kinda looks like it does..
is there another crease in the bottom of your doors? I can't really tell.....
