Dome light revisited

Does anyone know how a fella could get the yellow out of Ford's stock dome light covers ('87-'91 models)?

There's a wealth of bright light underneath that cover. It'd be nice is one could either chemically remove the coloring without altering the cover or if someone made a clearer cover that lets more light through.

I don't know what Ford was thinking when they put these yellowish covers over the dome light. You can't see a THING with that cover there. Running with it off isn't what I'd prefer.

I had to buy a replacement cover for my old van (I'm pretty sure it's the same cover you've got; it's for the assembly with two map lights built in, right?), and the replacement was straight-up white. IIRC, it was at a reasonable cost, and was well-worth it.

Believe it or not, those covers WERE white, and plenty bright. The years are not kind to them though.

I picked up this one from Napa and is an aftermarket one, there is some refitting that need to be done but Holy Crap is it bright.

Mike, Will get you the Napa part number tomorrow for ya... Got to dig up the reciept and/or box.

I also had problems. I think it is trucklites web page as was loading very slow and could find the light but gave error as you say on clicky.

Mike, I have a complete light assembly that I can mail to you. Check your pm.

The other choice is to dump the stock light and go with the newer Ford light. Other than cutting off the pin, I lined the inside with aluminum tape to help protect the plastic from heat and to increase the light reflected. I trimmed the head liner a bit since it was too close to the reflectors.

Not sure on the 3/4 tons, but the new body style F150's (95 and up) had them and some of the larger mid 90's cars.
