Hey guys, so today I pulled out of my local auto parts store on the prowl for some women. I got on it just to get up to speed and as I did, I heard a kind of pop. The truck died immediately. I had enough speed to pull of into a parking lot. After I stopped I crawled underneath the truck and found that it was basically dumping oil. It looks like it's coming from the rear of the drivers side head area. Truck will not start. I've heard it could be that I blew out the IPR or the ICP but I wanted to get a few more expert opinions before I tore into it so I have a better idea of what I'm getting into. Thanks in advance

More than likely the icp ruptured.
Time to dig into it to find the source. The icp's on the 03's are integrated on the hpop cover behind the turbo.

Ok thanks. Could it also be the IPR or is that not a possibility? Kinda new to these 6.0s

Nope. IPR is a check valve assembly and cannot rupture externally like the ICP sensor does.
Go OEM only when replacing it or you'll be doing it again.
6.0's do not take kindly to aftermarket sensors and other components.

I took another look today to see if I could pinpoint where the oil is coming from. I keep reading ICP, but I swear it looks like it's coming from somewhere underneath the FICM. I can't really get a good view of the ICP but did look to have a little oil on it, just doesn't seem like it's the source of all the oil. Anybody? If it helps, injection pressure is reading ~350 psi while cranking, "ICP" (must mean IPR) duty cycle is around 14% KOEO and while cranking, but like I said it won't start.

Alright check it out, these are best pics I could get. I just feel like if it was ICP it would be coming down the back of the motor, on the bellhousing, HPOP cover etc, but it's like it's just on the back corner of the head. Anybody? Starting to worry me a little bit. Need help.

350 psi isn't enough to fire up. Need minimum 500 psi.
On the 03's the icp direction if ruptures will blow oil into the direction of the ficm. Time to start looking up top.

At 14% duty cycle KOEO is normal. With the 350 psi when cranking, IPR duty cycle will more than likely be at 85%.

Where I have circled is the location of the ICP sensor but in this pic I'm conducting a shop air test to locate a leak.

Well see that's kind of what has me a little concerned, I've been looking up top, pulled intake, moved degas bottle, even pulled the FICM out to try and get a good view. I can't get the best view of it but what I can see is NO oil up top. I managed to get the connector off of the ICP and it did have oil on it, but the pigtail and heat shield it has around the wiring is clean. I figured if the ICP was the source of all this there would be very noticeable oil up top but I hardly see any. I'm going to pull the turbo when I get a chance and see if I can get a better view. So I guess my question is if it's not the ICP, what else could it be?

If icp pigtail has oil on it, it has failed. Pigtail and icp sensor are on your shopping list.
Peel a few more layers back or an inspection mirror for a peek into the back before you pop the turbo off.

Just a word of warning, this exact faliure happened to our 03 6.0 while employees were driving. Truck burned down with the oil spewing on the hot turbo, glad the same didn’t happen in your case.

Wow yeah, I'd be extra pissed. I haven't even owned this truck a month.
