Well i have my 6.9 almost tore down and cleaned to be painted, I am currently trying to get the timing cover off but i see you need to pull the crank pully off, what is the best method of doing this ?

The pully will unbolt form the damper. Take the damper bolt out. (And not to be a smart a$$) Use a pully/gear puller to remove the damper.

i understand that, its being a PITA because the harder i try to grip it from rotating the more i fail at it haha

Do not attach the dampner pulley to the outside ring... It will not work and end up ruining the dampner. It pulls the metal ring off the dampner. You need a puller that has bolt holes in it so you can thread bolts thru it into the dampner threaded holes. Ford did make a special puller just for this job. It also is used to reinstall it. Once you have it off you probably will find a worn area in it from the seal. If found then you need a speedi sleeve or the new seal will leak badly....

If you don't have a way to hold the crank still, then use an impact to buzz the bolt off. I usually have someone (Dad usually God bless him) hold the flywheel while removing or torquing down that bolt.
Gary is right, the puller should have a flat bar or an "H" beam that you can bolt to the threads of the damper (where the pully bolts on). The puller then pushes the damper off the end of the crank.

Well I got the dampner off the only thing now is that my pully puller messed up the first thread inside the bolt hole now i gotta get a threading tool and fix it $#!@#$$#$!@#$.........anyone know what size hole this is ?

Sorry... I should have told you to put the bolt back in the crank to protect the threads..... The threads are 1/2x20 if I recall... In other words its 1/2 inch fine threads...
