I've driven 3126 and 3406E. night and day difference. even though the 3126 was in a truck that tared at 15k, and the 3406E was in a truck that tared at 35k, the 3126 truck was a slow and weak dog. my buddy wouldn't let me try it with the Pittsburgh box turned on, the stock setting was enough to get up to 90mph keeping pace with the four wheelers. trying to cram a 3406 into a pickup is straight up ludicrous. it's the size of a small pickup.
noticed how much of the 3116 is crammed under the cowl in the pic? you will be in for major firewall mods.

The moment I got a spare IH4700 chassis with a dt466e. I remounted the carrier bed off the C6500 chassis with a 3126 and sold it. the buyer just kicked a rod through the side of the block and bought what was left of the truck for the motor. being large and underpowered is one thing, expensive to fix is a deal killer. if you trully insist on doing this, ford brazilian or a isuzu 6 cylinder will be just as much of a challenge and last longer before taking a bite out of your wallet.

yeah we have an isuzu up my place with an I-6 in it. its my dads everyday work truck. 96 gmc w-5. so me rippin the motor out of that in the middle of the night is probably not the best idea lol. i can probably find an older isuzu straight 6 that will make decent power i think his is rated at 300. and itll haul at 80 down i-95 weighing in at 19,500. it should be a decent pickup engine. and i know isuzu has adapters for gm transmissions. i really thought a cat would be an odd route and deliver me the best results. if i grab the old body ford. ill run the pstroke and my cummins then probably swap the pstroke out with a dt360. but for now ill go the isuzu route. thanks guys for all the help

For size comparison, a 3116, 3126 and C7 are right in at about 7 - 7.4 liters. A 3406B is closer to the 15 liter mark. You might be able to get that 3405 to fit in the bed...on a pallet lol.

They weigh in at over a ton and the sheer torque would litterally fold up a truck frame. Mine is a 425 horse tune with something like 1600 ft. lbs of turque....all mechanical.

The older engines were tougher and lasted longer, but about 550 horse was about all you could get out of one and still have it reliable.

The new C series engines (that are no longer available for a highway truck) can be had with upto 625 - 650 horse factory and 2250 ft. lbs. of torque. Add on a Pittsburg power box and soem other goodies and you got one hell of a monster....go to youtube and type in black stallion western star....some guy named simard owns it....you will be impressed.

But you will NEVER get anythign bigger than a 3116, 3126 or C7 under the hood of a pick up...and I mean NEVER.

A guy mounted an N14 celect plus cummins in an OBS F150.....had to be bolted in the back for the sheer size...that is a 14 liter engine.

yeah i know about the n14 cummins. and the 3406b is definetly a tractor engine or something i would see in a tri-axle dump and explain to me how he did that 14 liter?.

also i found out the engine in the gmc w-5. for some reason he had the HD 6 cyl put into his rather than the standard NPR series 3.9. kinda odd. but idk.

They are basically known to us truckers as a "throw away" engine. No sleeves, no real rebuildable parts and not enough power for the trucks.

I'm eyeing up the DT360/466 or the 8.3C Cummins as they are 'smaller' engines with wet liners.

I'd even look at Isuzu or Mitsubishi... I'm seeing '90's cabovers going for about the $5k mark cookoo that's cheap enough to use for a donor! ;Really

If you're REALLY ambitious, the 466 or 8.3 would be great. Otherwise, the 360 is going to be the best option. Also keep in mind the added weight if you load up your truck, and have to hit any scales.
