I have the ford “major repair” bracket that goes around the steering column and clutch master cylinder but haven’t braved that job yet as it appears the entire dash has to come out for it to happen basically l, steering column and pedal assembly ect, about to head out and take a couple picture of the extent of its though it’s probably minor to some, and my 5 years of wiring things into my cab is gonna be exposed too lol

Just fyi the dash is really pretty easy to remove in a bricknose. Whenever you decide to tackle that project you'll be surprised how simple it is.

The water leaks at the front could be from the top seam joint of the firewall. The hood cowling covers a deep gutter-like structure below the windscreen and all kinds of dirt and vegetation tends to get trapped there. I fixed mine for life, but quick patches can get you by for a few more years. The other possibility is the windscreen itself is leaking.

It's hard for me to give any good advice without knowing more about the extent of the damage to your current cab. However, if you want to keep the truck for life, I would get another cab. Thoroughly inspect and repair the new cab, then swap everything over when you can set aside a week or so (yes, count on that much time assuming no major hiccups).

That’s the worst spot but it’s been covered in that rust converter stuff and now it’s black.rest just looks like surface rust

I'm willing to bet that if you were to properly clean up that area, you'll find several holes coming through. It's not a bad area to fix though, since no real teardown of the cab is required to gain access. That part of the truck always takes a beating because anything from the front tire gets blasted up against the bottom of the floorpan.

I've also had good luck with a rust converter called "Corroseal". I'm not sure if it's available stateside, but I can get it up here in canada. And unlike Phosphoric Acid based products, no rinsing is required afterward, so you don't need to worry about it eating the metal after removing the rust.

If a proper repair is not possible in the near future, you can always spray down the rusty areas with fluidfilm. I've been using it on all the vehicles in my family and never had a lower door rust out. And since it doesn't evaporate like many petroleum products, it stays put almost like low viscosity wax. I use it to protect all the pinch welds and seam joints for my vehicles (wheel arches, floor joints, cab mounts, etc.) Just don't do it on an area that you plan to paint anytime soon.

Good luck with whatever you decide. If you were closer, I could patch that floor in a couple hours.

In my area rust isn’t common we have no salts or snow much here. Unfortunately even this amount of rust on a truck this old condemns it to a sale value of nothing basically. The cabs are so cheap because not much rust here so we have an abundance of them alsonenwith fenders and beds ect. My buddies closing down a junk yard with a couple crew cabs I maybe frakensteining a truck here soon. Possibly a 93+ cab and front clip. All the parts are at the salvage yard and everything’s gonna be crushed in the next few weeks so everything’s going cheap.

Oh I hate hearing that. Everyone is crushing the older stuff and it's harder and more expensive to get parts. Shame I can't come help him clean out...

Well everyone’s got about 1 eeek to travel to Springfield Oregon, unless is small parts I can snag. I’m gonna try to take all the small aftermarket stuff as I can and resale some of it as I’ve already got quite the collection of parts going on now

Is this the one?

Looks like Home Depot and Lowes might carry it too.

Yup, that's the stuff. Just make sure you mix it properly before using. It tends to separate when left to sit on the shelf. Thankfully, it isn't very thick.

I feel your pain regarding the old fords going to the crusher. Most wreckers won't bother with anything older than 10 years. I have what is probably the last driving 1986 F250 in my town. Craigslist is now my "wrecker".
