Without grenading it, if it switches it hasn't got fouled "yet" look at old bulls tech 101.
The pickup is just cheap Chimerican industry not giving you a complete unit...

Understood, any insight on checking the FSV? Funny that the showerhead is needed for the last 1/4 and its not included when you buy a new one
Unhook the inlet hose from the fuel pump and blow air through it, directing it back towards the FSV, to clear any debris that may have entered it.
Switch the valve from front to rear tank several times, and you should be good.

None of the vendors selling the Sending Units have the Shower head attached with the Sender. They are sold separate.

I’ve done quite a few of these. I use a compression fitting and extend the 3/8” tube to within 1/8” or so fro the bottom of the tank. I run a 3/8 drill bit thru the top section of the rubber section of the unbrella attachment which allows you to push the 3/8 steel tube thru it and down almost to the screen. They will never run out of fuel at 1/4 tank ever again. Even if that foot deteriorates down the road. While you are in there and disconnected I’d blow the fuel lines out in reverse.mine is a diesel and there were chunks of the foot stuck in the frame mounted selector valve(which burned it up).

I guess I thought that maybe the sending unit was cracked or something was wrong but in reality when I was switching to the back tank it might not have been getting correct fuel delivery because of a piece of plastic in the fuel line or in the FSV. Safe to assume the sending unit is fine and I can just get a new showerhead I guess.

I like this! I'll do that.

I ran a hose to bottom o the tank and added a particulate filter before the pump
I'm still considering doing this too. I've done a lot of research and there are of course people who say just put it back to factory when you can but, I think the idea of getting rid of the plastic showerhead seems smart. Thats the thing that fails so why put another one in?

I should have paid more attention when I took it off but how can I identify which is the send hose and which is the return hose?

I went the hose/inline filter route with some additional instructions from @Clb, thank you. Also back flushed the lines with air from the lift pump but only did it on the rear tank. The front is working fine right now and I dont want to mess with it. I added a little magnet via zip tie to it keep the hose on the bottom, maybe overkill but why not?!

Everything is back in the truck and it runs fine off the rear. Really had to wrestle the s*** out of it to get it in and hooked up. However, when filling it up at the station it would back up very fast. I’m guessing an issue with a breather or something. Any ideas what might be causing this? Probably a stupid question to ask now but what was the smaller hose inside the filler hose?

That smaller hose inside of the filler is what let's the tank vent while filling! Without it air gets trapped in the tank and makes it difficult to fill.
