Brass Return Caps

Over on FTE someone has designed a new type of return caps, there making them out of brass. Kinda nifty idea, pretty much a life time use item, only thing would be the cost... Anyone here read about it if not here check it out.

Thats pretty neat looking. I still think though if it cost over 100 it would hardly be worth it since the plastic ones can work for hundreds of thousands of miles. If I was going to make a really nice looking idi those would be on there for sure.

I would think brass would hold up quite well for along time. I guess if I started having alot of issues w/ the plastic caps that I just put on I might look at it alot more but I can buy several plastic kits for the price. They do look absolutely amazing and surely would last along time.

Dont brass start turning green when exposed to the elements?

I just wanted to pass this information on to folks here that dont go to FTE and get more thoughts on it.

No, that's copper.

Brass is what's used on ocean going vessels. It would hold up fine to salt exposure. Brass is the preferred fitting material in most cases.

Actually there is several "grades' of brass. They do turn green too but not as much as copper does in any inviroment... Aluminum bronze is used where you have a need for a shaft bushing with high strength to support the spinning shaft. Admiralty bronze it great around salt water too. Its got kinda a red color to it. Brass and bronze machine easily but copper machins kinda like a gummy mess. Dept of cut and spped of cut plus speed of part in very important. If you ever machine cast iron go slow or the cutting bit wears down fast.... It acts like an abrasive on the cutting tips.... Just some friendly information...

Personally i think brass is beautiful,always had a passion for old fire equipment because of the brass.
This is a 1930 forestfire pump see how the brass sets it off,I have one I never got to finish I fell in love with the brass on it. This one in in Orange MA.

ANDDDD, cost wayyyyyyy more than any of us have got...thats hard machining stuff,also!!!!
