Brake light switch

I’ve been having trouble with my brake lights not coming on until I press the pedal almost all the way down. My switch went out a few weeks ago and I had to change it. Are there any switches that work better than others? I had to buy a Duralast one because that’s the only one the parts store carried and I was on my way to get an inspection.

Any help would be appreciated.
