Blowing brake light fuse

Hello. My brake light fuse is blowing as soon as I apply my brakes. I have traced all wires as far as I can see and I have not found any bare wires or possible short circuits. I checked all fuseable links under the hood and they all seem fine. Any ideas?

dont forget those wires run through your turn signal switch. i have had those switches cause weird brake lite problems.

how are the wires and switch on the pedal?

Thanks for the reply Jred. I just checked the wires at the pedal and replaced the brake light switch with another one off of a donor truck. No change, as soon as I touch the pedal the fuse blows. Is there any way to check and see if the problem is the turn signal switch before I go tearing the steering wheel off?

Pull the brake light bulbs out and try it again to see if the fuse blows with the bulbs removed. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen a bulb blow and do some 'funky' things. Also do you have a trailer wiring hookup? They can cause some problems as well.

For grins, just try replacing the bulbs in the tail lights. I've had that one happen to me. Also, a bad brake controller that is internally grounded out will do the same thing. Something I learned the hard way after a long haul once and I needed to stop. After a lot of messing around I finally found there to be an internal short and replacing the unit was the only solution.

sorry check the simpliar stuff first like mentioned. a bulb half turned in can short. i caught my turn signal switch by noticing that it worked when i lifted the arm but stopped my brake lightes when it let it down.

Fixed! It was a bare wire on the turn signal switch grounding out inside the steering column. Thanks for helping me figure it out.
