best year vw to run on wmo?

I bought a 2000 golf with an ALH back in December and so far I've been happy enough with it. Doesn't see WMO but I do add 1/2-1 gallon of WATF to a tank. Reds the fuel a smidge and no noticeable side effects yet. If you figure the 45-50mpg it already gets plus one free gallon to a tank that puts it in the 55-60 mpg range that you pay for.

Anything 2003 (ALH engine code) and earlier with the mechanical rotary-style/VE Bosch injection system works best. No PD/HPOP/CRD (2004 and later). Older Passats with the 1Z engine are also excellent candidates.
The older VW diesels are holding their value really well and some are even appreciating because of their alternate fuel capabilities. Another option would be older Volvos but I don't know much about them. Their resale prices seem a little lower than the VWs.
