With shipping and taxes (I live in TX) the cost was $132 to my door.

Robert's right. No aftermarket dampers. And, there will likely never be any. Not much new in the aftermarket for a 25 year old (7.3idi diesel) engine platform.

There I fixed it for you. You can build a 302/351, 385 series, FE engine, as an entire engine without one ford motor company part.
If you are a fan of 351/400 modifieds, or the 6.9/7.3 you are outta luck.

True but quite a few parts from a 351cleveland fit in a modified and also a few in the 385(429-460) and there is after market for the clevelands.
Back on the subject, sorry. I never knew balancing was so affordable, everyone always makes it sound sooooo expensive. Sounds to me like it all rebuilds would be worth it just for the piece of mind

It can get damn expensive is all of a sudden you are using stuff that is drastically different in weight.
Also expensive if you choose to take an engine that is externally balanced and make it internally balanced.

Not much of an issue for the 6.9/7.3
