As far as I’m able to tell, the harmonic balancers used on the naturally aspirated and factory turbo engines are different. Not surprising what with the different rods and pistons.

Ok, so here are the International part numbers

1805414C1 for 6.9 engines
1803317C1 for 7.3 non turbo engines
1809117C1 also for 7.3 non turbo engines
1816624C1 for 7.3 factory turbo engines

I cannot find a new harmonic balancer for the turbo engines. RockAuto lists the same part for both applications, but that can’t be right. Also, it appears there are two different balancers for the non turbo engines. Updated design?

This discrepancy hasn’t mixed that well with Sunday morning coffee and waffles… so I am requesting the aid of y’all to help solve this mystery.

@IDIBRONCO, I would wager that you might have the answers. If anyone else does, then please chime in as well. I figured that if we can solve this thread, it can be useful later on to match dampers to their respective applications.

@Nero has a turbo harmonic balancer, its used, but it exist.....
Yes, I’m aware. I have been speaking with Señor Nero about his turbo parts, but was wondering where one might be able to acquire a new harmonic balancer for the turbo engines.

I have no answers here. If your engine is apart, which I'm assuming that it is, just use the balancer that you have and have the entire rotating assembly balanced.
I also believe that I have one. I haven't checked to see, but I assume that the balancer that's on the (assumed) Turbo engine that I picked up last spring is a Turbo balancer. I'm not parting that engine out. It would have to go with the entire engine. Since they're a limited run item, the engine will stay as a whole. I'll either use it as a rebuild, or I'll sell it all together. Without a balancer, I have a useless engine.

Not sure if this will help or not.

On another note, is there a difference between the n/a and turbo flex plate? What about the heads? I assume turbo valves are in the turbo heads

I believe so
Yep, looked it up; flex plate is turbo block specific. Same as balancer.

Edit;

Looks like rockauto sells both the turbo and non turbo variant flex plates. They are different part numbers. Both have 155 teeth and are weighted, so not sure what all is different.

Justin also sells both variants as a billet option, but they are significantly pricier.

I saved this site, www.damperdoctor.com but says web site deactivated.
Maybe give them a call.
Might be my security on my computer not letting access it...IDK

They rebuild your old Harmonic Balancers.

I noticed they are on Facebook

Yes and good ones are as rare as hen's teeth.

Yes although I have no idea why the different valves. Aluminum melts way before steel does.

They are weighted differently. I'd double check before ordering one from Rock Auto. The "Turbo" ones may not really be. There hasn't been much luck finding new ones as far as I know so the chances of Rock Auto actually having them is slim. In my opinion of course.
After looking at Rock Auto myself, I didn't see a listing for a 1993 flexplate, but I did find two for a 1994. That's the first clue. The second is that the pictures show 10 bolt holes in each flexplate. Third clue is that each picture also shows 6 torque convertor holes. I'll go out on a limb and say that they're for a PSD not a IDI.

Alright did a bit of teardown, here is an IDIT balancer next to a new stock idi one. Only thing I see different is the drillings for the weight, and the casting number.
