back firing

-cuss tring to get another week out of her before i swap her for 6.9 ,on the way home today she started to back fire now at idle she has a back fire and hard miss ,any thoughts on what this could be? need truck to haul trailer in am

I would guess either lifters or a bad injector or two. Maybe air. Did you try and loosen injectors to see which cylinder(s) the miss is on? Good luck,

Start it cold and feel the individual runners on the exhaust manifold to see which cylinder is missing. Crack that cylinder's injector line with a 5/8 wrench while it's running to check for fuel.
You may have a bad or sticking valve. Try compression check to look for the cylinders to be close to each other in pressure.

Back fire in a diesel is BAD!That means the Exhaust valve is open slightly or there is a chunk missing allowing the Cylinder explosion out.Diesel won't explode like gasoline will in the tail pipe.If it did,most of use would be driving Roman candles thanks to overfueling........You have a very short time left on that engine.

:confused: drove it today and she was a little`sluggish this am. but after about 15 minutes on highway she started running fine? in the next couple weeks hope to have 6.9 in and running...
