Kinda going crazy with so many things going on at same time...OMG
Regardless, I've bee prepping my two White Elephant axles for lockers and such. My rear 10 1/4 has as NEW brakes and drums where within spec so I'm ok there till I can get the disk conversion parts. It's open diff so my Lockrite I got from Darrin on here will be going in!
I ordered a new seal for the pinion and along with that a new nut and a CRUSH SLEEVE ELIMINATOR kit, so that will get a Tech 101 Pictutorial.
Here are a couple shots of how much cleaning I've done thus far on the rear axle. If you look at the brake backing plates you can see the previous application of what appears to be cheap rock guard or something similar. That stuff was all over the diff tubes and housing! I had a wire wheel on my grinder to get it off!
and a close up of housing, I know it's rusting now no big deal
I should order someGM 14bolt ring gear bolts I suppose for this too, so I have stronger bolts
And here we have the front axle getting prepped for some refreshening! New inner spindle bearings, new inner axle seals, new King pins, new pinion seal, and of course, my Spartan Locker!
Some of the axle and other parts lol
Housing...
Both upper King pins NOTE pitting....ugh, this is why I"M replacing them and the lower bearings and such too!
So I'll be tearing into my front diff this next week, in preparation of the new parts coming next weekend.
Maybe some paint before I go to far into rebuild, then it's time for the master rebuild and assembly. Once thats done I'll sling both axles under my truck. WOO HOO
