Kinda going crazy with so many things going on at same time...OMGcookoo

Regardless, I've bee prepping my two White Elephant axles for lockers and such. My rear 10 1/4 has as NEW brakes and drums where within spec so I'm ok there till I can get the disk conversion parts. It's open diff so my Lockrite I got from Darrin on here will be going in!

I ordered a new seal for the pinion and along with that a new nut and a CRUSH SLEEVE ELIMINATOR kit, so that will get a Tech 101 Pictutorial.

Here are a couple shots of how much cleaning I've done thus far on the rear axle. If you look at the brake backing plates you can see the previous application of what appears to be cheap rock guard or something similar. That stuff was all over the diff tubes and housing! I had a wire wheel on my grinder to get it off!

and a close up of housing, I know it's rusting now no big deal LOL

I should order someGM 14bolt ring gear bolts I suppose for this too, so I have stronger bolts;Sweet

And here we have the front axle getting prepped for some refreshening! New inner spindle bearings, new inner axle seals, new King pins, new pinion seal, and of course, my Spartan Locker!

Some of the axle and other parts lol

So I'll be tearing into my front diff this next week, in preparation of the new parts coming next weekend.

Maybe some paint before I go to far into rebuild, then it's time for the master rebuild and assembly. Once thats done I'll sling both axles under my truck. WOO HOO

Kinda crazy you're doing nearly the same job I just got done doing. lol

Which kit did you get, Ratech or Yukon? I went with Ratech cause it was half the price of the other one. Had to chamfer the spacer's inner edge on one side cause of the fillet of the pinion there, no big deal and it's a common procedure anyways. Ended up with .050 total shim pack thickness, which was about perfect.

I should order someGM 14bolt ring gear bolts I suppose for this too, so I have stronger bolts;Sweet
GM corporate 14-bolt ring gear bolts? First time I hear about it. I used Dana 70 ring gear bolts, they are the exact same length (and obviously thread size) as the Sterling bolts, but their heads are serrated so once they bite into the carrier upon torquing down there's no backing out on their own. They also have larger heads (13/16" socket instead of 3/4"), and are higher grade than the Sterling ones.

The 14bolt ring gear bolts have a shouldered bolt with less potential to shear under load or so I read IIRC LOL it may have been a D70 but I think they said 14bolt

EDIT...

From this page here near bottom....
http://www.fourwheeler.com/techarti...06_ford_1025_1050_inch_axle_tips/viewall.html

To solve the ring-gear bolt problem, replace all of the bolts with shouldered bolts. The technicians at Custom Differentials can set you up with shouldered Dana 70 ring-gear bolts.

Thus you are correct and I'm quite frankly loosing my memory and incorrect.

Great! Do you still heat the knuckle? What kind of gun do you use with it?

HEAT ....maybe....GUN....BIGGEST GUN U CAN GET! I have a 1" IR but only bout 90 lbs air pressure 5 gallon tank and 1/4" line, I need or want 125 lbs pressure and 30 gallon tank and 1/2" line to feed the monster! Other wise it's like well...pointless...

I'll go to local truck shop, I know owner he said stop on by! :D and I can bust out those KP's with his guns and air! fittings may not be compatible.

I'll post pics and such.

Went down to Tulameen yesterday to see my good friend Jordy, whom brought me a CARE package from BCC

Woot

Here we have an overall view of my parts

Two KP kits, two inner spindle bearing kits, two inner axle seals for D60, some pins and springs for Spartan locker, a pinion seal for both the front and rear diff, along with crush sleeve eliminator kit! Don't think I missed anything maybe??

Just absolutely fabulous all this in Canada around 340 bucks!

Oh and Jordy gave me 4 KP seals for good measure too!

Now I need to get the studs for the hi steer but those can come another day!

So looks like we know what I'll be doing SOON eh boys! LOL

Just aired down to 26lbs all around and I'm waiting on a few other guys to show up and do some wheeling today, nothin wild, just mild!

Should be fun.

Can't wait to get lockers in and such, it will be a BeAsT! to say the least!

Thanks for looking

Is your crush sleeve eliminator kit by Yukon Gear as well? If you don't mind, please post part number, a pic of what's inside the box, and two more pics showing the edges of the actual spacer on both sides (or one pic will suffice if both sides are the same). I wanna compare it to what I used in my Sterling, which worked very nice except for the fact that I needed to chamfer the inner edge on one side cause of the fillet used on the pinion. But I knew I'd be doing that before I even bought the kit, so it wasn't like a nasty surprise or anything, just minor inconvenience more or less.

I can post what I have but I am not sure why you need to chamfer anything? Does the kit not go in PLACE of crush sleeve BETWEEN the two bearings? There should not be any portion that goes between bearing and pinion end where bearing goes....

Help me understand *** you mean?

Thanks

I can illustrate with pics tomorrow, well I have no solid spacer to use for this but I have my old pinion loosely assembled with bearings and crush sleeve and even yoke and conveniently sitting on a wooden block... somewhere. I have to find where I put it first, lol

If you have trouble getting those kingpins out, this is the most successful method of removal.

Take a cutoff wheel and make a relief cut at the base of the C all the way around. Quite often the kingpin will rust solid to the C making it quite impossible to remove it...

If the **** hits the fan and the kingpin starts to break apart, stop and weld a washer around it to keep it together ;)

Well now, Mrs is going to be kicking me to dog house...

Going to look at one of these
http://www.ebay.com/itm/X-4-TD-1500...581?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item565608fb05

This would work extremely well at torquing the KP in and perhaps even UNDOING them.

That's it, GOTTA buy new tool honey....no really I do, no, no I can't do it without it. How...how the @($&# do you expect me to accurately get to 600 lbs ft Tq with a wrench that goes to 250 lbsft? Huh, Oh you don't GAF I see, you...no Honey I know....please...ok couch!
