Hi Gang!
I'm getting closer! Question about the wiring harness that runs along the firewall containing the wires for the glow plugs, gpc, open sender, etc. Do I keep this section of the harness under the turbo plumbing? ie under the downpipe?
Thanks!

moved mine after it got melted from being there, i shortened it up and ran the wires across the front of the engine with the wires for the glow plugs running back towards the firewall so that no wires were under the turbo

You can leave it there if you use some kind of insulation over the wires, but It's probably best to move the harness.

Since I moved the GPC I think I *may* have enough slack to just scoot it in front of the snail. Do you think that would be good enough? I've got some DEI thermal sleeve as well. Another question, do you think that it'd be ok to put thermal sleeve on on the fuel return line instead of moving it?

If you can move the GPC in front of the snail, I think that would be ok. If you don't move your return line, you'd better put something over it. It doesn't take too long until the extra heat makes the fuel line hard and brittle. Then you get leaks. It would be better to move the return line though.

Thanks! I did move the GPC to the passenger side behind the battery.
I'm a bit unsure about the correct way to relocate the fuel return line. If you (or anyone) had a picture, that would be great!
Here's where I put the GPC, it's got the cover on now.

That will definitely be far enough away. Conestoga Diesel sells a turbo return line kit with all of the right parts. That's what I'm going to be installing on mine. I've even seen people run a new fuel line from the passenger's rear cap, around the front of the intake (where the snail bolts on), back to the T fitting at the driver's side rear of the engine. This may not be the best idea, but it's better than running directly underneath the turbo.

They're PDF files from ATS, which seems to have dropped any semblance of support for the IDI engines that made them a LOT of money!

Thanks friend. I've got those. According to the documents, if I'm reading correctly, it doesn't seem to instruct me to do anything other than pull the harness in close to the GPC. I moved the GPC and figured a way to bring the harness to curve around the front of the snail. I'm thinking that I'll reroute the fuel line to the same area by adding a longer hose. I'll also add some DEI heat shielding there as well.

That's probably true. I think it was just the factory turbo trucks that had the wiring run differently. The aftermarket didn't seem to see a need to mess with the wiring, but Ford did. That should tell you something right there.
