I'm going to replace water pump today but just wanted to know what the bolt sizes were so I can go get some and cut the heads off for dowel pins (2).

Also, I got the expensive thermostat but was confused by the wording on the rubber band around the circumference of thermostat. It says 'install facing the radiator'.

I thought the wax motor was supposed to sit in the engine block, exposed to the recirculating engine water being heated up thus expanding the wax motor which causes thermostat to open.

So, which is it? Wax motor in the block, or away from the block? I know this probably sounds like a stupid question , but I don't want any cracked heads. Thanks...

The wax end goes in the block. Thats the copper end but... Before you do that test the stat in boiling water on the stove. Also that rubber ring is a seal. I cut it off on my thremostats for better flow. I cut it off just where it is cemented to the housing but leave the band on the housing thats glued or heat applied.
