Any upgrages for side mirrors?

Cool. Glad to know who's truck that is. Very sharp. You do the paint and body on it? I know you did a real nice job on your 89. I do really like those dodge mirrors.

I just can't make myself see anything good about any of those later-model plastickey-looking can't-see-down-the-side-of-a-trailer mirrors.

Mirrors are supposed to be stainless-steel or painted steel and firmly bolted onto the doors in about a dozen places; thus, you can mount numerous blind-spot mirrors, C.B.antennae, turn-signal lights, marker-lights, cup-holders, and American flags on them.

No self-respecting driver would climb in the cab of that goofy-looking semi pictured in a previous post and those mirrors look useless compared to a good set of West Coast.

But then, y'all can do as you please; I don't have to like it.

i guess i am one of the few that does not like having a truck drilled full holes.

EDIT: i just went out and counted.

my truck has 24 holes drilled in the cab alone. my mirrors account for 8 of the holes. the truck had some grab handles in front of the super cab window when i got it. it took them off cuz they are ugly. another 8 holes there. then on the back of the cab there are 8 holes that are now not used. i think those used to be cb mounts.

Some times Old school is just that old school. Now I'm not saying newer is all ways better, hell most of the time it's crap that's used to cut cost but in this case I think the newer mirrors have an advantage over the old style.

I use my truck 98% of the time to pull my 5th wheel. and If I can get better mirrors that make pulling my 5th wheel safer and easer, Then it's money and time well spent.

We upgrade our trucks to make them better for us.

My black truck has a set of what I call "bucket mirrors" (because they are roughly the size and shape of a 5 gallon bucket) and they were probably good mirrors at one point. They mount up on the original loop mount, and take the place of the small rectangular mirror that comes stock. They also have a convex mirror down at the bottom for blind spot coverage...

Trouble with them is that, like most things on these old trucks, they are probably at least fifteen years old. They have no means of keeping them in place, except for some rubber grommets that have long since broken down and became dry, cracked hard plastic.

So, the driver's mirror needs to be adjusted every time you close the door.

But, like I said, they were probably good at one point...

i finally understand how those dodge tow mirrors work and they are pretty cool. they still look stupid when they are in tow mode when you are not towing anything though.

I agree. The company I drive for has those style tractors. The mirrors are ok when the truck is new (not big enough but we have others that cover the blind spots ). They get loose at the pivot points for the housing and start to shake as the truck ages. Only way to fix it is new mirrors. I guess this is the perfect illustration of planned obsolescence .

I agree the Dodge mirrors are not to my taste but the function is there.

I do like the look of the ford mirrors. I still have hopes someone that's done it will post a few pic's and maybe a write up on how.

I also plan to "upgrade" but for me it is all about function. Since I don't tow very much, a smaller mirror is OK. What I really want are mirrors with turn signals/ markers. 3 years ago a teenager in a Suburban sideswiped me (in my old '84) at dusk...and like they always say, the first words out of her mouth were,"I never even saw you!!" I want the person next to me to notice me and when I'm trying to turn. So I'll be junkyard diving for a new pair over the next few months. I have no problem with other manufacturers' or other years' mirrors, and I'll let everyone know when I find some that work. Bare minimum, they need to have signals front AND back, maybe a side one for bonus points. Just my thoughts.

I put 06 chevy mirrors on my 93 my 95 will have dodge mirrors like andy im mobile so i cant link you to it but i have a thread on my chevy mirrors

93cc7.3 I did a search for post with your user I'd and did not find a write up on the mirror? Only thing that came up was a post about your rims and a few others asked about the mirrors
Does your vent windows still work? Any problems with the mirrors like vibration
Why go with the dodge mirrors over Chevy?
