Any such thing as Rotella 15-30?

My dad asked me to check for some Rotella 15-30 for him to put in his diesel Luv. We both run Rotella 15-40, and I figured I would change my oil here now too, as its getting colder and the truck is cranking slower. I looked at runnings and only saw Rotella 15-40 and 10-30. He insists that he ordered some Rotella 15-30 last year.

I looked on the Rotella website and dont see any such thing.

Does it exist? And would 10-30 be ok for winter months?

He may have been thinking of 5W-30 SYNTHETIC...... that is the only close combo I can think of. 15W-40 Dino oil, and 5W-30 Synthetic

What you want is closer numbers. A 5w50 for example has a huge viscosity improver in it. As that wears down it drops out and cokes up on the rings ruining them. So a 10w30 is a better oil to run. I understand reasond for running 5w10 oils but please don't run it till it wont drain out of the pan. Thats a sure way to kill an engine.

10W30 could be ran year around. Jim Allen runs it year around with good results. You would also probably see a bit better fuel economy with it.

They also make a 5W40 witch Ive had good results with. Either way switching to a thinner oil will make starting in the winter way easier. 15W40 is just too thick when you start dropping down near zero!

Thats all great information. I never ever see zero temps in my hood. But I see cold weather that will freeze the windows frosty white. But that only till the sun pops up....

Well it was about 20 this morning for me and the truck cranked Preeettty slow. Hopefully 10w-30 will do some good.

5w40 Synthetic is pretty good to run.
I am a firm believer in Synthetics, unless your engine already leaks like a colander. But in my gas trucks I always run 0W30 synthetic in winter. No regrets. I bet it would be great in my diesel too. May have to just try it. Makes starting a LOT easier!

No oil leaks (220k, knock on wood) but it does burn oil pretty fast, so I'm not entirely sold on synthetic.

I put 5w 40 synthetic in mine last year for winter. It drink it so fast I could not keep up with it. I ended up adding whatever oil I had on hand at the time it was that bad
