another turbo question

ok ats and ford got together and installed turbos on idi motors in 93-94 yrs
what else is different on them besides just the turbo
is the ip pump different
i wonder why they didnt come with a pyro
they are rated at 190 @3000 rpm where as an idi n/a is at 185 @ 3000 for the 94 model yr.
doesnt seem much of a difference
from i read they are waste gated ive got access from ford for parts such as seals and gaskets just have to make sure they are available

From what i understand the IP is different, allows more fuel flow and a different timing map. Also the injectors are different (at least a different code). And i think the blocks are a little beefier then the regular 7.3.

the only thing i noticed on mitchell was a different head gasket
it is possible the ip and inj are different
buy why would they not worry about egt s when they have a stock exhaust

the turbo motors had bigger wrist pins 33mm vs the 29mm NA ones if i remember correctly. i dont think there were any other differences in the blocks themselves.

the injection pumps and injectors were different though, but not by a whole lot.

The pump is not different. Just the calibration. Extremely conservative! :rolleyes:

There would be no reason for an EGT gauge on a stock truck. High EGT's are caused by excessive fuel, beyond what a stock setting IP would provide.

The turbo trucks likely had LOWER EGT's than the NA trucks, because of the extra air.

The piston pins are 28mm on the non turbo and 33mm on the turbo motors. the pump is calibrated differantly as posted above and the injectors are code "G". The exhaust valves are supposedly made of an inconel material. I bought a set of them from Clevite and even their engineeers can't tell me what they are made from. They did tell me they are made in Brazil.... Go figure. The turbo blocks have all 1/4 inch npt ports where the non turbo blocks had 1/8 inch npt ports. The turbo blocks are said to have 110 thousands wider main bearing webs but I haven't found a true turbo block to see if this is true yet. The rest of the motor internal parts are exactly the same from the turbo to non turbo motors. This means the crank, cam, lifters and gears are the same part number. Even the 6.9 crank is the same along with the cam.....

guess i should have said they are the same externally just set up differently.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. An EGT gauge can still tell you some things about your fuel economy even if your not concerned with over temp.
