Some months ago, Mel offered to time my truck. When I arrived, and we opened the hood, there was no sleeve to hold the probe. As a result, the timing meter could not be used.
Well, I just went to my "spare" engine, and removed the timing indicator. Its just held by 2 spot welds.
The question is, could I just lay it over the timing indicator that is already on my truck--the one that is missing the "sleeve." It would be offset to the front of the truck by the thickness of the metal, maybe 1/16". Would the timing meter work? Should I drill out the hole, making it true and round, after tacking the "new" plate over the existing one?
What do you think?
