If the threads are flattened near the bottom then maybe you have some carbon built up on them. This is the tap thread type and size. Its metric at M10x1 In the SAE numbers its SAE J5480. If you look at a glow plug you will see a bevel seat below the threads. Thats what seals the glow plug in the head. Not the threads. They just exert pressure on the seat area for the sealing effect. Get a tap, cut the bottom off so its cutting threads all the way at the bottom and spear really heavy axle grease on the tap flutes. That way nothing will escape into the precup. Even if it did it would be very small and blow out easily.
