99SD and older PSD the same?

I've got a 93 F350 with the IDI motor. Was going to drop in a 94-97 powerstroke which should be a direct drop in. Now I found a 99 SD with a 7.3PSD. Are the newer 7.3 PSD and the 94-97 PSD the same motor?

First of all welcome!

Well yes and no to your anwser. It's still a 7.3l PSD but Ford made alot of changes electronically when they went with a new body style for the 99's. You will be looking at new wiring and also getting a 99 PCM. There will be other things you will need before the 99 could be used in the OBS truck. Maybe others that have done this will chime in and give you their experience with doing a swap like this.

Oh boy, this is a very doable task but it is ALOT of work. The IDI being a strictly mechanical beast and the PSD being an electronic beast means you not only need the 7.3 PSD engine, you also need the truck it came out or (or another PSD truck) so you can scavange ALL of the harnesses, the electronic sensors, the PCM, the IDM, the dash/speedo cluster................
