i dont know what i did, but i ate the hell out of my ring and pinion.
found another for 400 bucks, didnt open it, but i drove an hour and a half to pick it up, and i needed to get home.

cracked the cover, and damnit... its a open diff! -cuss
well, it was cheap enough.
disassembled my diff, and found a bad bearing. the bearing cage was *****'d
disassembled everything.
axles wernt too shabby.
LSD carrier was still intact.
pulled tone ring off, junked ring gear.

disassembled new diff, new e-brake pads!;Sweet
rotors have surface rust, set off to the side
sett calipers off to the side.
confirmed the gears are 3.73's
popped axles out
forgot to match splines. should be the same? didnt look all that different.
checked back lash. - .013

tomorrow, i gotta order some bearings, a shim kit and new ring gear bolts.
parts wont get in till friday :(

tomorrow ill swap housings in the truck and get it ready for the LSD carrier.

anyone have any tricks up their sleeve on this?
pretty basic install
install new bearings and ring gear that goes with the pinion.
shim to .013 and call it good?

Just out of curiosity. Shouldn't the backlash be set at .004 to .006. Never set one up myself, but watched the setting on a Bus rear end and as I recall, that was what it was set at. @IDIoit
