91 f250 question

I am looking at a 91 f250 7.3l idi

He has a new front clip for the "newer style" obs trucks, will it just bolt on or need some fab work to it?

Also it has a ATS turbo on it, what all should I look at to make sure it is running properly? And how much boost should it be running I heard like 6-10 but idk that much about diesels (just yet)

the obs front clip bolts right on as long as you have the correct diesel core support for an obs truck the only modification is to mount the newer bumper on the old frame . if you need to know more pm me. i have done this swap atleast 5 times i can think of

If the newer front clip is for a gas truck, then you will need to find a radiator support for it that is diesel specific. A guy I work with had a 89, and he went to put a newer front clip on, and found the support can be a little hard to find. It has to fit the newer style headlights, and also the diesel radiator.

I am pretty sure it is for another diesel, but I am not 100% positive. I will ask him today when I go look at it.

It should have headlights, he had the whole truck and was going to install it on this one but never got around to it.

Alright guys, I went to look at the truck and LOVED it!!! I will be buying it once I get my Jeep sold, which will hopefully be this week.

The front clip is from a gas truck unfortunately. I am still going to go ahead and get the front end, complete with everything, so once I get to the junk yard or find one I can install it. (not in a hurry, just want the truck. haha)

It needs a new fuel pump in it, he has one just never got the time to install it. Also needs a vacuum line to the brake booster.

Now once I do get it what all should I do to it first? As in maintenance wise. I figured I will change the fluids in it first but idk what else it may need. Btw it only has 143xxx miles on it.

change all the fluids first. flush the cooling system as well and be sure to use the proper antifreeze. get some diesel fuel additive such as power service, stay away from laucas fuel cleaner it doesnt help diesels that well

Also anything to learn about driving a diesel truck? I have been reading LOTS and LOTS of threads on here...ive gotten up to page 100 and am still going. Though I haven't seen much on newbies driving

I know to wait for the WTS light turns off, but thats about it?

The only thing to learn is ,wait for the glow plugs to warm before you start it and dont shut it off and start it a bunch cause the starters dont seem to like it imho.

Oh, and you can use the bricknose core support if need be you just have to cut the holes behind the headlights a little bigger so you can access the bulbs.

Or drill the spotwelds off the bottom (hoop) on each core support and use your original one on the gas core support and weld it back , i have done both and it works fine it is just really nice to have the right one, however they are hard to come by. you might have to push the gas peddle when you first start it up. look at top of the sun visor it should have starting instuctions on it.

Alright thanks guys! Will the glow plugs be warm when the WTS light turns off?

But I think I will def cut the core outta the truck now and just use it... I like cutting things so it will be good! The only thing that will suck is moving all the stuff from the innerfenders right?

Hopefully I will be selling my Jeep tomorrow and getting the truck soon, so I am sure I will have more questions then!

i think everyone does that once in a while
