89 - 97 ZF

Is there a difference between an 89 & a 97 zf ? I haven't had much to do with a ZF. So this is new water for me. No I didn't get one a friend asked me.
Is the lube reccomended for both of them the same? What does every one recomend?
I'm a NooB now.

From what I understand the 89' version is going to be a S542 and the 97 Will probably be the S-547 model. I have a 97 S547 behind my 6.9 right now and it works perfect. I do believe that the 97 transmission will have a lower first gear, But physically I do believe that they are the same exact size (Not sure if internals will swap or not) Hope this helps.
