86 ford ranger needs a diesel what diesel

i got an 86 ford ranger 4x4 5spd 2.9 v6 extended cab body lift and 31's but the best part about it the truck was free
i started looking at diesel power plants what do you guys think i should swap in
4bt i think that would be out of the price range
what do yall think about that mazda 2.2 diesel that went into those trucks

I saw a ranger on craigslist a couple of months ago that had a 5 cylinder mercedes turbo diesel in it.
It mus have taken one hell of a shoehorn to get it in.

we need a magazine striclty aimed at older diesels and provide info on REAL mods for diesels not this video game plug it in crap or pavement princess toys but for real trucks

I don't know, but he said that the transfer case was not operating which made me think that he had stuck in the mb auto as well.
