What's the deal with rad supports for 80-86 trucks? Looks like there is a repop for gas engines but not IDI. IDI rad supports seem to be still made for the later trucks. Are there really no sources for a new rad support? What is different from the newer trucks? Can the new repops be made to fit an early truck? Mine is getting thing around where it mounts to the frame and the lower parts outside of that. Can probably patch it up if I have to, but have to buy another welder and guard it with my life since I've been targeted apparently just for welders.

I believe that @Agnem modded a gas rad support for his Idi bronco.
Maybe he can chime in.
On the other hand Tool Thiefs need to have there knees broke among other things.
We(me and parents have been broken into 18 times in a year so I have no tolerance for Thiefs
Local Police are Worthless and could careless about what your going through and God help you if ya take matters into your own hands it's a flawed system.

Sorry for the Rant.

Interesting I've only seen the wide Raditators but I also haven't been around idi's along time.

I wonder if the only different in 80-86 gas vs diesel rad supports is the lower hoop the rad sits on? I'll have to compare my two trucks a bit more closely. If so these are cheap enough that it may be worthwhile to just get a new one and swap the lower hoop rather than patch up a bunch of spots on mine.

If you have the short wide rad then you have a gas core support. I had a half plugged short wide from farm truck and brothers 86 gas f250 needed a rad. My diesel one was a direct bolt in on his core support. Now the tall narrow one is a different animal. Might be able to just weld in the loop and go

The core support mod I did was on the Night Moose, which came with a 300cu 6 cylinder gasser. When we did the diesel conversion, we needed to get the diesel radiator in there, and since the core support that came in that 1994 F-150 was in good shape, I didn't want to pull it. I had an old rusty 86' diesel core support laying in the scrap pile, and about the only thing that was good on it was the bottom barrel. So, I looked at the the way the two were made, and found a good place to cut both core supports, so that I could simply weld in the bottom barrel from the 86' into the core support of the 94'. I used to have a webshots album that documented this, but we all know what happened there. If you are good with a torch and a mig welder, it is very easy to do. I would recommend pulling the entire front clip, as it made it much easier, and you can position it in different positions to make the welding easiest. Have your new tall narrow diesel rad at the ready to test fit once you tack it in place.

You can swap lower hoops. I peeled mine apart to straighten it. I believe it's just drilling out the spot welds. I know there is a thread somewhere here on doing it that way. Ron maybe? It was a blue truck so that is always my guess. :D
