I have a 77 f150 with a 351M/C6/NP205 setup currently and also a 88 F350 7.3idi C6 2wd setup. the body on the 88 is gone and the engine has 111k on it. I would like to swap the idi into my 77 and so far i know that i will need to make new towers for the engine mounts but what else will i need to change? If im correct the C6 on the IDI has a different bolt pattern and since its 2wd it has a different tail shaft than a 4x4, so can you swap output shafts and tail shaft housings to accommodate the transfer case to the diesel c6 housing? Other than the transmission what else should I keep in mind?

i would like to stay automatic, an overdrive would defiantly be nice to have. I have looked into gear vendors splitter before and if i remember they were around $3k. what do you have to do to go from a mechanical c6 to a electronic e4od? do you have to use the dash from a truck with an e4od and the computer as well?

I agree, look into using an e4od.
When I did my swap I used the c-6, great tranny but no locking converter, no overdrive=more noise and lower mpg.

Your 205 might not work with the e4od, driveshaft clearance issue, e4od is wider.

You can mod your existing towers to work.
Return fuel line back to tank--just braze a tube/nipple onto the filler neck.
if your not going with a suspension lift (4+") you'll have to use a remote oil filter.
New front springs to handle the addional weight, I used 2" skyjackers and they hardly moved when I set the 6.9 in.
Larger radiator from a 460 truck with a/c or a "super cool" rad..
Your existing fuel tanks are fine, just drain/clean.
If your thinking of going with a turbo you'll have to go with a body lift or notch out the passenger floorpan for downpipe clearance.

That should give you a good idea whats involved.

They grafted in the whole original cross member with the mounts from the 85 into mine. Looks like a good heavy duty way to do it. They also notched the original 77 cross for oil pan clearance. It looks like cutting/welding are required.

How was your truck done 77f250?

on my truck i didnt have any issues with the oil filter but i did have to make some relief in the boxed section around the started no big deal there and i had to notch the cross member like stated above and a turbo is doable with out a body lift but some pushing and denting and massaging and cussing are involved but if i had done the turbo before everything was nice and painted and clean  i would have had much less cussing but i made my own engine mounts so i could have gotten my engine lower in the engine bay than the other guys and i have a 4 spd from 78 and a 6.9 bell housing so it could be a little more forward as well so there could be some variables that would be hard to duplicate on every truck also i have a 78/79 frame so unless you have the late 77 which if im correct here is the same as a 78/79 it could be alot different

at any rate have fun with and you WILL enjoy it when finished im sure;Sweet;Sweet
