7.3 l tranny ?

I am just wondering if the ZF5 tranny was ever used with the 7.3L motor either IDI or Power stroke?

Both. The ZF5 was behind the idi from 88 to 94. Powerstroke 94 to 97.

That is great I have an 87 f-350 with a 6.9L in it and wantes to uprade, but I wasn't sure of the tranny mating issues. I 'm also considering a 5.9L 6BT cummins since that's the setup in my bros truck it's working great for him.

i think 99% of the manuals from 88 to 2003 were zfs. now the idi had the zf-42 and the psd had the zf-47. both 5 forward speeds.

the 6.9 and the 7.3 have the same block, so if the tranny came off and idi, it will fit on an idi

That's what my transmission is.....1997 powerstroke transmission, ZF S5-47 to be precise. Came of a 2wd F-superduty, so my transfer case bolted right up to her.
