I just replaced the cable for mine, I use it when it’s below freezing. Nice to get the defrost going sooner.

I plug my block heater in for about an hour on less than 40 mornings and the truck is happy to have it, but I run waste oil so if I don't do that I'd be replacing a starter in no time.

I got a bunch of hydraulic oil a bit ago and then added 3 gallons of used 15w-40 from my oil change over the weekend, all in the rear tank. Prolly 50% oil. Made the mistake of leaving the selector on the rear tank, tried to start this morning... it wasn't pretty. Had to bust out the ether. Then Drove 4 blocks and she died from sucking air somewhere that's easier than sucking cold oil.
