6.9 Fresh rebuild, now truck won't run.

I just recently rebuilt the 1984 6.9 with new rings and bearings in the bottom end. The truck ran fine before rebuild and the only real issue with the engine was a blown out lifter. I made sure all timing marks were correct before putting front cover on engine. Engine has been static timed with the original line between the cover and the injector pump. I bled all of the injectors and put a electric fuel pump on the engine. Engine is getting plenty of fuel to the schrader valve. I replaced the fuel shut off solenoid and it seems to operating correctly. I have very little fuel coming out of the fuel lines when I crack them to bleed out. Engine is out of the truck on a stand. I'm thinking something happened to the injector pump during the time I was rebuilding the engine. I have a injector pump from a junkyard I might put in the engine to see if that helps. Any suggestions would be appriciated.I'm about to my wits end with this engine.

is your glow plug system working?
have you tried to disable the glow plug system and use eather?

I have tried jumping to glow plugs with a wire individually but not as a system. I have also used a heat gun into the intake for a few minutes to help get the combustion chamber nice and hot, but no luck with that.

As far as the Ether, I thought it wasn't good for these engines? Is it okay in small amounts?? Thanks for the quick replies!

do not use eather with the glow plugs working.
eather and glow plugs will ignite and cause damage.
if you have glow plugs disabled, eather can be used in small amounts.
individually heating a plug at a time wont do nothing, you need all 8 to be lit at the same time.
do one or the other, and it should fire.

if youre getting fuel at all, id say its due to the low RPM.
if there is fuel, either fix the glow plug issue, or use eather like I said.
one problem at a time.
could be that youre just frustrated and you just need it to kick over to get the volume it needs.

Yeah I am getting frustrated with it. Finally get it back together just to have it not want to run. But hey that's just my luck. I'll see what I can do today and let you know how it goes. Thanks again

You will never see a lot of fuel out the Injector lines......................

Are you using two batteries to crank? The GP system is very simple, you can hook a hot wire to the controller on the back of the engine to energize them. Worry about fuel when everything else is correct. If it was running before with the IP, it should now.

Welcome to the forum. Our idi engine fuel system uses very litle fuel at the injectors. In fact about 80% of the fuel going thru the filter ends up a injector and injection pump lube and coolant. Even holding the injection pump throttle shaft wide open very little fuel drips from any injector hard line during cranking. Do you have a fast cranking engine? The gear reduction starters will spin our idi engine so fast you can't count the rpm.

i SURE HOPE YOU HAVE SOMETHING LIKE AN ENGINE HOIST HOLDING THAT ENGINE WHILE IT'S ON THE STAND.

If and when it starts, if you don't, it will roll over in the blink of an eye.

Update: I believe the injection pump went bad from sitting. I found another pump at a junkyard and put it on the engine. Pulled the glow plugs and got fuel to the injectors. Gave it a small shot of either and off she went. The engine is sitting in a stand with a hoist holding it up. Now I have to time the pump to make it run better. Any advice on timing the pump and breaking in the engine correctly?

You can borrow, rent or buy timing machines on this forum.

As far as breaking in the engine, just drive it and check for leaks or sounds. If you have enough oil, not much can go wrong.
