Looking for suggestions/advice on cyl head upgrades or modifications for 1984 6.9 heads. They only have 90k miles on them. No warpage or cracks.
Truck has an old Banks turbo setup.
Going with upgraded rockers and head studs.
Getting the short block align honed and balanced, upgrading to a 12" clutch.
Not a daily driver, just use to tow small tractors and old cars about 5 times a year and maybe a 2000 mile trek to pick up an old car. Trying to build a 400k truck that I can pass to my boys when I'm done with it.
Thanks

Head studs are a must for the 6.9, I would get 7.3 rockers instead of the 6.9 rockers. You can replace your stock springs with comp 910s but that’s not a real necessary mod for just a tow rig

I found that extra strong springs are only important when you are overdriving the turbo. Keep it sane(maby 15 psi of boost, max) and it shouldn't be an issue.

Pushing 22-24 out of a wastegated banks(tiny turbo), foot to the floor up a hill... that was what made the difference in springs - exhaust lifter pumped up and bent a pushrod.
I've never had that problem any other time.

Did you take the cylinder heads into a machine shop to verify that there are no cracks? I would if you haven’t
