Just wanted to share a lesson I learned putting a new output shaft seal in my 4x4 zf5-S42. Some brands add a lip around the seal to make sure the seal seats parallel to the bore. On my transmission this put the sealing surface in the wrong place, where the output shaft is starting to taper down. The lip won’t let you drive it any deeper than flush, so I had to go buy a different (cheaper) brand that didn’t have the lip “feature”. Just wanted to save you guys my headache!
