As I have done in ever truck I've owned, I yanked the headlight and wiper control knobs off and now they won't go back on. Usually I just thread a wire nut on the stem, but as much work as I have in this truck I'd rather not this time. Is there a correct way to remove them? How do you get them back on and get them to stay on?

Also, the '84 have no intermittent wipers Can i simply swap out a new switch or will I need a different wiper motor as well?

On my truck there's a little metal piece inside each of the plastic knobs. If the knobs pull off the shaft easily I can bend the metal tang at the end of that metal piece out a little to increase the tension on the shaft. Too much = knob won't go back on. Not enough = knob pull off in hand. Just right = knob stays put under all but unreasonable force.

this is a drop-in deal. You will need to find the switch and black box off any f-series or bronco from 83-91. usually most XL or XLT should have them. The switch plugs into the black box plug and the harness plug does the same too. Don't forget to connect the ground wire on the switch and the box needs to be mounted away from the ebrake pedal. I will usually zip tie it to the wiring harness.
