I have a 1994 factory turbo IDI that ran fine 2 days ago, parked it overnight, then the next morning it would not start. Just crank and crank and crank. Some white smoke out of the tailpipe. Brand new starter, good batteries, and alternator. Truck ran like a dream then the next morning, nothing. I tried using ether (glowplugs wired to press button on dash) and nothing. Tried plugging it in and nothing.

Where do I start?

Check your glow plugs to see if they are good.
Check to see if you are getting voltage to the glow plugs when the button is pressed.
You may need more glow than usual in cold weather. 12-15 sec.

Looks like you are getting fuel (white smoke), you just need to light it off.

When you can see white smoke out the tail pipe during cranking that tells you there is fuel getting to the cylinders but.. Not enough heat to ignite the fuel. So something is wrong with the glow plugs. You might want to check the main engine wire harness plug for burns and melting. The glow plug controller demands too much power and any corrosion in the plug makes heat and melts it or worse. Causes an electrical fire. Its recommended to bypass the plug with a lentgh of 6 gauge wire and send it direct to the controller from the fender mounted solenoid. Just remove and cut off the factory wires that feeds power to the controller. No need to remove all the wire from the harness.

The blue wire goes into the dash for the push button. I have no wait to start light. Its there but it hasn't illuminated since I bought the truck.

Check to see if you have 12VDC at the right hand terminal where the red jumper is, that should be battery voltage. Press your GP button in the cab several times, should hear clicking. On the relay, you can jumper the terminal where the blue wire is to ground, should energize the relay, check for 12VDC on the other large terminal, should be 12VDC out. No output, need new relay. Check all the glow plugs with a VOM, disconnect the wires to them, should get a reading ~3 ohms, no reading, bad GP.

I'm trying to find a diagram for the wait to start light inside the dash since it was bypassed. The blue wire I guess goes from that post, to the switch inside the dash, then to a 12 volt source.

Large post on the left is wired correctly, runs to the glow plugs.

Small post on the top is supposed to be a ground, but its jumped from the large 12 volt post all the way on the right. What is going on here?

I assumed its wired like this, but the small wire looped around confuses me. There is no pink (wait to start) wire. I'm a bit confused at this point.

EDIT: Also the truck keeps throwing the serp belt. Bad tensioner more than likely? I walked to work today since it tossed the belt off on me moving down my road. I replaced it yesterday and it tossed it off in under 20 miles.

Serpentine belt loss is usually from the tensioner or the idler gone bad. Watch the excentric movement of the vacuum pump pulley too. sometimes they get out of round and cause the tensioner to jump around and throw the belt.
