I have a 1990 F-350 SRW crewcab with the banks turbo system and the transcommand on the transmission, the transmission was rebuilt by a reputable transmission shop about 15,000 miles ago, my problem is that in between 2-3 and 3-OD at about 1/4 throttle the transmission can't decide which gear to be in, it shifts up and down until I either give it more throttle or less throttle, I talked to the tranny shop and they said that they wouldn't be able to diagnose it with the banks kit on it and that my transmission is probably junk and I should convert to manual tranny, any help would be great.

so they told you that there rebuilt tranny is junk?, also what does the turbo have to do with anything, so if you had a 96 f350 with a powerstroke they couldnt rebuild the tranny due to it having a turbo? id go back and talk to the manager there. and if that doesnt get you anywhere id take it to a ford dealer and let them tell you whats wrong. and if ford says its the tranny id take the shop to court. turbo has nothing to do with the way it shifts, its a DIESEL. anyways the E40d stands for electric 4 overdrive. there are no vacuum lines or anything else, its electric.

You talked to the same shop that rebuilt it or a different one? If it was the same shop didnt you get some sort of warranty:dunno I would take it back to who ever built it because they should stand behind there work.

I bet they're trying to blame it on the TransCommand unit - do the FIPL test as suggested above, then report back to us.

I think the most likely problem is an irratic reading from either the VSS or FIPL sensor.

Have you tried to disconnect the Banks unit and run it stock to see if it changes the symptoms?
