19.5 wheels

Has anyone mounted 19.5'' rims on their IDI? i have been looking at american eagle 058 rims. the tread life is pretty much what im intested in. im probably goin to have 275's on them, for a little better hwy economy.

I dont have an IDI but been runnin the 19.5's on my Cummins since 2002................I got 115k outa the first set, prolly had atleast another 30 tread on em but I didnt rotate for about 20k and got em outa control and couldnt get em back..........lesson learned quit chasin the girls and rotate every 10k

I've got a set of Hyrail rims I've thought of installing on my rig. I've really thought about it a lot. I understand the concept of getting better mileage. I understand the concept of getting more life out of the tires. I understand the cool (to me) factor. Here's the rub.

1. I've heard Calvin mention that the 4 wheel 450's eat 19.5 front tires like there's no tomorrow. I would imagine that to be similar to a 250 or 350 with a D60. Maybe Chris can weigh in on this.

2. At roughly $225-$250/tire lasting 100,000 - 120,000 miles You can almost buy 2 sets of 235/85R16 that will last half that long each. I don't really consider this to be getting more miles for the money.

3. If you ever had tire problems on the road, you're a lot more likely to find 16" rubber than 19.5" rubber.

I got a heck of a deal on the hyrail rims, so I'm not really out much for the rims. You fellas buying new 19.5 rims are looking at over $2,000 for rims. They say the mileage increase is 1-2 mpg. You're better off using 2 grand to get an overdrive tranny and save mileage that way.

i don't have any numbers yet, maybe 4000 miles. they look good so far. my problem will be i can't rotate them properly, with the dually, the inside tires are a steel rim. as far as finding a spare on the road, any big truck service will have tires for the wheels, pricey? maybe, but being able to find them at a truck stop is piece of mind to me .

I had a superduty 450 4x4 with a 7.3 and 19.5s, had 50k on the fronts when i sold the truck they had 50% tread and i had never rotated the fronts.

So i dont think it wears them out as much.

my tires were the TY303 from yokahama and are 11 ply rated at 6400 lbs each...................pretty tough to wear a tire like that out

I've sure thought about selling them. Problem is, I'll never find a deal like that again. I'd like to run them for a summer for a comparison. If I sell them I'll put them up here first.

For all the guys that bought their wheels from rickson, i talked to the guy from ealge's in LA and he said that rickson buys the rims from them at $150 a peice. He Must have thought i was a dealer or sumthing, because he said my price was the same. sounds good to me. shipping should be a few hundred tho. my truck is a SRW so rotation will be no problem
