So today I pulled my vacuum pump so I could get a straight on shot at the timing marks. I'm running at 11 degrees advanced. Yes, the motor clatters lots. So tomorrow I will back it off some, probably back it down to 9 and see what that runs like. I'm getting some black haze when I shift or accellerate with any throttle. I have not turned up or down the new Pensacloa turbo pump...

Well, we are waiting to hear how this all goes.........given that these engines are sensitive to timing changes and the great pump competition!

Well I'll tell you guys this much... The Pensacloa pump is no piece-o-crap dead no power pump. It moves right out there but... Its no way close to what a Moose pump is. I really can feel the differance so far. Yes, I will be turning this pensacloa pump up and resetting the timing. I will "try" to match the Moose pump but I will be honest about my research. Everything I find out like what degrees advance works best and how many turns up did it take to get these results. Now remember I turned down the Moose pump almost one complete turn. Not just one or two flats.

11 would be a half a degree beyond maximum spec, but of course you already know that. Your into the glow plug chewing range.

Thats what I was really concerned about Mel. I have 48 Berus on the shelf but that doesn't make getting them out any easier or safer. When I pulled them for the compression test I used some scotchbrite to clean them. They all looked really nice, no bends or swelling like a ball park frank... So today I will bump the timing back....Gees...

Today I'll loosen my lines and set the pump ccw some more. I know I'm at 7 degrees @ 2k rpm now. So I'll time it at idle and see what it says, then advance 2 degrees from there at idle (no helper). Then tonight I'll have someone stomp on the pedal to check it.

Only reason I didn't do a Moose was b/c I was burning WMO almost exclusively, and Ag said a moose pump would be wasted for this application. So far I've seen at least as good performance out of the Pensacola IP if not better than my old pump and it's not turned up yet.
