After 3 tries getting the correct part, I destroyed it trying to install. It appears to be a 3 piece design with a collar, wiper, and stamped ring. The wiper part is designed to fit tight on the spindle shoulder and the rotating seal surfaces are "within" the seal assy. Outer seal piece...
Hi Friends. Help! I'm replacing glowplugs and gaskets/harnesses to see if I can make this thing start better and run better. I noticed two vacuum hoses coming from a module on top of the engine. Green on bottom Red on top. Where does red one go?? Can't find anything! Also, this thing blows...
Just put a set of new BB injectors in. I've had truck for 5 years and have no previous service history. The old ones were Italian Stanadynes and looked pretty charry-gunked up. Truck always ran okay, but lately cranked longer before starting and seemed a little smokier and poochish. Now...
Neut saf switch
Sorry I didnt mention that I replaced the neut saf swi. Where does starter solenoid energizing wire go? I am trying to backprobe it without taking the truck apart ;)
Hi. I am going nuts on this one. 1996 E-350 Club Wagon won't crank. I can bypass the solenoid up on the core support by the battery with a screwdriver and it fires right up (of course, with ignition switch in "run" position - this is a 5.8 gasser). Red with sky blue tracer wire that...
Hi -Is there a weakness on the water pump area sealing on these old IDI's? My truck leaks water from around the water pump area and I can't see exactly where it is coming from. It is a big job, but I guess I have to just start pulling parts. Any experience like this?? --ANdy
SORRY, MY BAD. WENT INTO JUNK EMAIL FOLDER
Thanks, Russ. I found your email in my junk folder. Hotmail does such a good job filtering true junk, I rarely check it. I will mail a PMO on Fiday. Thanks again! --Andy PS Agnem: I didn't contact you directly - you would have been my next...
Hi. Thanks for responses to my post regarding rebuilt injectors for my 1993 Non-Turbo IDI. It seems the best way to go is with new Delphi BB injectors from TYP4 (Russ) or AGNEM. I emailed, phoned, and PM'ed Russ over the past 4 days and have received no response. I don't want to stalk...
I want to have my injectors rebuilt - They are original to my truck and I would just as soon have them rebuilt rather than getting someone's else rebuilt injectors. The truck can be down for a while... Anyone know of a good source? If I can't do this, what are the best injectors to get, and...
Well, I sprang for genuine Caterpillar batteries p/n 230636x last July (2009) after reading on this forum that there IS a difference... $115.00 each - no big deal, well... Sure enough, once or twice during the summer when the truck sat for a week or so it sounded like it was cranking a little...
It is intermittent within the same drive cycle. I assume if the stalk light is not flashing, there are no codes. I will try to pull them anyway. Does it wet or dry, warm or cold. Thanks, Ben for the suggestion. This is exactly what it is doing. I haven't checked for TC lockup yet - will...
My experience is the same as oldbull8 except for one thing: 20 degrees is what I would consider the MINIMUM differential between air temp @condensor and evaporator. I routinely get 30-35 degrees differential on healthy older 134a systems.
Just out of nowhere my trans seems to have difficulty accelerating in "D" selector position. It feels like it is trying to start out in 2nd (or maybe even 3rd) gear. Doesn't really pull until rev's are around 2000, then labors to accelerate. If I manually put it into "1", it accelerates...
Cat Batts
I went through two Interstates and two other name brand batteries in my truck. Only got a couple years out of each set. So last year I popped for Genuine Caterpillar '31's (recommended by several on this site.) So far I am happy - though my truck sits for several days at a time...
You don't really need to buy the socket -- it makes it easier, but it is not absolutely necessary. The socket I have is for the smaller f-250 HD front axle and wouldn't fit my F-350. So I just carefully tapped counterclockwise on a nut flat with a drift and it threaded off with my fingers...
Make sure you talk to the adjuster and tell him about any recent work you had done or parts you bought. My 89 Suburban was just rear-ended in Dec. and they totalled it. Gave me 2600 for it. I couldn't sell it for 2000 two months before... When I mentioned a recent trans, they upped it...
Thanks! I have done just that - I cut the front off with a hole saw and the caps fit right over. They look great except for the crummy looking auto locking hub covers. They're all corroded and nasty-looking. I LOVE the auto-lockers. I have had both autos and manuals, and they both have...
About how much should I pay for a set of clean used Alcoa's from a '96 truck? They include the center caps, but the front caps won't work because the 4wd hub sticks out too far. Also, does anyone know a source for new auto locking hub covers - mine are all corroded. I don't want to have to...
Don't Force it!
Be careful - Mine got stiff and I put a little lovin' on it, and the cast aluminum sleeved housing snapped off and my shifter dropped and started flopping in the breeze. I knew it wasn't a big deal, till I went to Ford and bought the new part. Over $200.00! I could have...
There is a light on the dash that glows for 2 seconds every time I start it. Says ABS. I have never seen any wheel speed reluctors on the hubs or anything like that... How do I tell if it has it or not?? 93 F350 cc IDI no-turbo 4x4 srw
My truck stayed out overnight outside in an open parking lot in Chicago last night. I was fully expecting to put the block heater on it today and let it fry for several hours before taking it home tonight. But just for fun, I tried cranking it up at 5:00 am at a temp of minus 7 degrees. On...
I bought two brand new Interstate batteries for my IDI two years ago. This winter, I have already had to jump this thing 6 times in 20 - 30 degree weather after the truck was sitting for 4 days. No parasitic draws, new starter, new monster gauge wiring. New alternator. I wonder if these...
...And you know, sometimes the "whole" can't be understood by examining the parts...
I traded a modern gasoline portable 5000 generator last month for a 1972 Lister Diesel 3500 watt generator -- even up-- When I did the math on it by comparing what I could get for the Coleman Gasoline unit vs...
I agree with RLDSL - Unless you have a need for keeping the electric transfer pump, your 80-100 gallons of "Free" fuel will begin getting pretty expensive once you consider all the running around finding the electric pump, fitting it to the project, filtering the fuel, etc... Now you gotta get...
