    2017 Oilburners Rally

I made it to the rally for just a few hours. I live around 45 minutes from this year's rally, unfortunately due to a new job I needed to put time in there rather than take a few days or even a single day off to spend more time. I wasn't able to meet everyone or see all the trucks, but I did...

How not to do an engine swap (my 12 valve Cummins into 97 F-350 thread)

Well photobucket is going the way of mugshotz and messing up my pictures. I'll try to get around to fixing them, but it may be a while. My wife and I now have a 2.75 year old, an 18 month old, and a 1 month old. And I'm finishing up a fairly major remodel of an old farmhouse we bought...

Wanted: 8x6.5 dually wheels, or wheels and tires

Well TX is over a 12 hour drive for me, so I'd rather pay the $100 shipping for them.

Wanted: 8x6.5 dually wheels, or wheels and tires

That's not too bad. I may go that route. Thanks laserjock, I'll let you know if I can't find something closer.

Wanted: 8x6.5 dually wheels, or wheels and tires

I am in need of at least 5 dually wheels for my 1997 F-350. I want them to be hub centric (so 4.880" hub bore). I'd prefer steel but aluminum would be ok too. I am willing to buy tires too if they're less than 5 years old, have decent tread, and are in decent shape otherwise. I have a Dana 60...

coolant filter seems like a pita.

I put one on the frame rail on my truck. Easier to change without risking spilling another fluid on the engine, and keeps the engine bay less cluttered. Keeps the coolant cleaner. Mine is a fully bypass, so it is part of the heater core circuit and sees low flow. So if I don't change it and...

Not your Average Dana 60 Swap

I've been looking into this more, and want to ask some questions. Excuse me if you answered this above, I didn't see where you did. Is it a stock suspension - ie no 2" lift? Are you close to rubbing tires at full suspension compression? Any bump steer, death wobble, vibration etc...

idi reliability HELP! --warning ... long crazy story

I'd sell that POS as fast as possible. You've sunk a lot of time and money into it, but things like this seem to just keep on and keep on. I'd stop now with that thing. Obviously you bought something that needed a lot of work to begin with (brake lines blowing, lots of parts failing). But...

    WTB: OBS Fummins

I see now. I couldn't see it on my phone. Wonder what he did for a fan? If he left the transmission where it was I'm surprised the serpentine belt isn't rubbing the radiator. I don't see how he could even fit an electric. My transmission is moved 2+ inches back from factory and I don't...

    WTB: OBS Fummins

Wow - they call that "done right?" What is that hideous pipe running from the intercooler to the intake horn - dryer vent pipe?

Not your Average Dana 60 Swap

Thats pretty slick. I'm sold. I need to replace my wheels & tires (wheels don't fit right, tires are worn), rebuild my front dana 60 eventually, swap gears front and rear from 4.10 to 3.55 or maybe 3.73. That will cost a fair amount, so I'm thinking that I could go this route and kill a lot...

Homemade Pyrometer / WVO Controller System

I cannot see your pictures. I can see the others in this thread, just not the one in this post. For an IDI, most like to put it in the manifold between cylinders 6 and 8. They fire one after another, so it should be the hottest spot. Its also convenient as its on the back drivers side of...

How not to do an engine swap (my 12 valve Cummins into 97 F-350 thread)

I like it pretty well. I still have a lot of little things to sort out but for now I'm just driving it (I need tires - the ones on it are not balanced well at all, hook up my AC compressor, do an exhaust to remove the drone at around 2000 rpm and a lot more little stuff). I just recently I put...

    F700 west coast mirror dimensions?

I have searched an searched to no avail. I want to put west coast mirrors off an F700 on my truck. I measured a set on a uhaul that was parked on a hotel parking lot. They stick out 20" at the widest point, measured from the window. That gives me 3" on each side fitting into my garage...

how tall of a tire with 3.55 gears

Have you towed 4-7000 lbs with it yet? My guess is you might be wishing for 4.10s even with stock size tires if you are on anything but really flat ground. Auto/manual does make a difference. For my old manual truck, I loved my 4.10s. I felt like I'd be burning my clutch with 3.55s and any...

    ALTERNATOR TACHOMETER ???

I'm picking it up from the stator wire. As far as I can tell from the wiring diagrams I've dug up, it hooks right up to the stator internally. I should mention, many tachometers probably don't have enough adjustment for picking up this signal. But it can be done with the right gauge.

    ALTERNATOR TACHOMETER ???

I know this is a really old thread, and anyone that was posting in it has long since figured it out or gone a different route for a tach signal. However, I searched high and low online and could find no other example of someone using a 3G alternator for a tach signal, so thought I'd post my...

    Steering gear problems

This one was a "Premium Napa Steering," the warranty card says its built by BBB Industries. I tried to rebuild the old one, but it seemed beyond what I was willing to mess with. I couldn't find any good instructions on how to work on it - where can I find a service manual? Its not in my Ford...

    Steering gear problems

I recently replaced my steering gear with a rebuilt one from NAPA because the old one was leaking like crazy. At first, it felt fine. Now, it has a very slight leak at the inlet fitting, and every now and then it seems to malfunction. Sometimes, it seems like I don't quite have full power...

Copper or Plastic on Mechanical Oil Pressure Guage

I would be concerned with copper work hardening and cracking. So I would go with plastic. But I much prefer an electric gauge.

How not to do an engine swap (my 12 valve Cummins into 97 F-350 thread)

I decided not to paint the new engine. The shiny paint I put on the last one took a lot of time and effort, and certainly didn’t help it run any better. This one was pretty clean, just 270,000 miles of minor oil leaks and road grime on it. So I cleaned it up, did a complete reseal (except the...

How not to do an engine swap (my 12 valve Cummins into 97 F-350 thread)

It’s been a long time since I updated this. I’ve been really busy with life, work, and working on the truck and didn’t want to take time to write or upload pictures. I went to pick up the engine I bought in Phoenix. Got down there at 8 am in a rented F-150. I had no idea what was in store...

    Mechanical Fuel Pump for IDI

Cleaning out the garage... I've got a mechanical fuel pump, almost new. I ran it a few miles, thought it was bad because of low fuel pressure, so I took it off and put another new one on it. Same problem, turned out to be something else. $25 shipped in the US? I also have an intake...

    hx 35 rebuild part?

Just went through trying to assembly a hx35 with that o ring installed. Came with my rebuild kit. Could not get it to go together. Did some reading and determined that most hx35s done have that o ring. Mine is fine, fits tight and builds boost without it.

    Noisey oil line

Isolator or electric sender is the only way to do it safely. Copper is a bad choice for anything that vibrates - it work hardens and then cracks.
