I have a 1990 7.3 idi 2wd with what I believe is an e4od it is making a slight metal on metal rubbing/grinding noise. it only makes it in drive while im moving at 10 to 20 miles per hour when the tranny is about to shift into 2nd gear. after 2nd gear it goes away and it only does this sometimes, not all the time but frequent. I checked my tranny fluid it is a clear color not very red anymore and it was low so I added fluid to it but it didnt seem to help. I let it sit over night and it just started doing this this morning. Any help is appreciated!

1st of all, you have to check the tranny fluid when it's hot and running. Over filling these E4OD'S is ******* them, the crank will stir up the fluid causing air in the fluid and the pump don't like to pump air.

Check the four bolt's/nuts on the torque converter, remove the dust cover, use a screw driver on the starter ring to turn the engine over, takes a 13 mm wrench or socket, a 1/2" wrench will do.

right I checked the fluid after the engine was at operating temperature and after driving the truck for a little while. I will check the 4 bolts on the torque converter later today. do you think it could be the 4 bolts being loose? or could this be a rear end issue? The drivers side wheel spins before the passenger side wheel does.

Would it possibly be a caliper stuck on the front drivers side? It sounds almost like a bad brake pad but stuck because it only does it at like 1500 rpms or right before it shifts to 2nd. I push on the brakes and it doesn't go away. I really have no idea on this one. Thanks guys
