My old chipper has a 2.3 Lima engine and a broke indeed system. I found this newer chipper with a blown Perkins Super cheap. The immediate plan is to put my running 2.3 on it to have something to use.

I had the brainstorm to put an IDI on it. Even a N/A engine would be a beast on a 12" chipper. Most use 100-110hp diesels. Using an adapter plate from a bus you could run a Rockford PTO and be off to the races. Anybody have an IDI to SAE plate they want to sell?

Pretty sure the IDI bellhousing pattern is a SAE #2, once you remove the spacer bolted to it.

That would be a wicked setup, and have thought about doing it with our morbark 16” but there’s few things you need to consider, first is the engine weight. The Lima I have no experience with but good chance the idi is heavier. Another reason you don’t see big displacement v8s in chippers is fuel economy, an inline four is going to do better than our IDIs in this aspect, but our engines would definitely perform better than what was already in there.

Would be really cool to see it be done though ;Sweet

I don’t have an sae bellhousing here but I’ll be sure to keep my eyes out for ya!

No, the sae2 bell dolts on like the ford adapters do.

John, Geese has a s1900 with an idi in it, not sure if he would sell just the bell. It’s still a complete Truck

Been curious how much a wood chipper or any form of a chipper wood metal glass etc, could hold as far as a motor size like small block big block diesel gas mutli fuel so on so forth.

Nice chipper pic n @Dieselcrawler it took me a minute to sort out what you was saying I'm just a semi noob to engines

She made it home from NY. Crappy ride, 43mph the whole way, she would start wagging bad above that speed. 4 hour ride that was a recipe to put you asleep. Has a gutted SAE PTO assembly. Talked to Geese Auto Salvage, Rick says he should have everything I need.
