i teed a gauge off my turbo inlet block, my problem is I'm thinking since it's off to the side of oil flow it's not getting a good reading, I drove two hours yesterday and it never got over 160, if I come out after it's parked it'll show heatsoak and be around 200 then when I start it it drops back down. Today it stayed at 150 all day. Does this sound accurate? Seems just too cold to me to be correct. I'm going to redo my fittings to the turbo feed dead ends into the gauge sender then 90's down into the turbo so I should be accurate then

I have a gauge but never did get around to installing the sending unit.I need to have a bung welded. Can a garage weld a bung to an oil pan in place after draining the oil? If so,I should take it in and have it done.

No that's not accurate oil temp at all.Oil temp should very, very closely mimic the engine coolant temp. This is why adding a large aux oil cooler reduced my coolant temp so drastically so,that now it takes July or August and a gross of over 12k or more to have my electric engine cooling fans doing much. Before my aux oil cooler,I was spiking 260F oil temp just pulling a small grade! I know cus I shot my pan with infra red.
Now I know I have oil temp well under control,it still would be nice to monitor it.

What size is your sensor? If it's the correct thread you should be able to screw it into the oil cooler housing above the oil filter

It is 1/8npt.ill see how the new turbo line does, if I don't like the results can you explain where this other port is located?

I put mine in a 3/4 inch piece of pipe on my oil bypass system after the bypass filter. I had the same issues you were having with a regular tee anywhere because the probe doesn't get a good flow. But in my bypass system, I just took 2" of thicker pipe and drilled a hole, tapped it to 1/8 npt and put the probe directly in it. Goes the whole way to the bottom of that pipe and gives the oil plenty of space to flow around it. With coolant temps around 190* it will cool to 160* before it goes back into the block but after 10 feet of braided hose and a giant extra filter flowing threw a restrictor it has time to cool, which is a pretty awesome side effect of a bypass system.

Careful Thewespaul, that's a powerstroke oil cooler and the same ports may not be in ours. The engine heater in the cooler end gives it away. Yes you could probably use one of the oil ports on the engine block in that location. They're already 1/8 npt. The coolant drains are 1/4 npt.

Thanks for the heads up. Just finished up and you were right, there's no oil plug indicated in the pic, about an inch up on the block itself is one not on the oil cooler so I tapped into that

I used an Isspro sender in my oil pan when I built my engine 10 years ago. Usual oil temp is normally bout 15 degrees or less abouve the coolant temp. When hauling its can climb up to 270 depending on the load on the engine. Grades are scary so I do not look at this gauge when climbing hauling...

Ok I installed it in the block and just idling it to test it already reads correctly with coolant temp. The sender location on the turbo is not an ideal spot
